Memphis Police Helicopter with Infrared

Check out this piece of police work using an infrared video camera aboard a Memphis Police helicopter. This suspect stabbed the police dog a dozen times before being apprehended. This video is fascinating in a chilling sort of way.

UPDATE: Late last night, via the The (Memphis) Commercial Appeal:
A Criminal Court jury, after deliberating for more than five hours, convicted Kenneth Hayes of aggravated assault, reckless aggravated assault and criminal attempt to intentionally kill an animal over the value of $1,000. He was found not guilty of being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun.

At the start of the trial, Hayes had pleaded guilty to evading arrest and theft of property over $1,000.

I guess I find it confusing that the dog clearly attacked the man and the man defended himself. There was no cop present to control the dog. And the man was charged. Then we see the cop apparently clubbing the man repeatedly and the dog is jumping in also. I realize cops love their dogs, but at some point a human's right to self-defense has to overrule a cop's love for his dog. If the dog is attacking a man, the man should have the right to defend himself. Just my opinion.
