Press Shield Law = Bad Idea

In a self-serving editorial, "Keep the news flowing," the Memphis Commercial Appeal pleads for a federal reporter-source privilege almost as potent as attorney-client and priest-penitent.

If you think this is a good idea, I have two words for you: Judith Miller.

Gosh darn, how did the United States of America get along without such a shield law for the entire history of the Republic?

What may be most noteworthy is that it took 200+ years for our cowardly politicians to cave in to these businesses that buy ink by the barrel.

In a striking example of "1984" Newspeak, the bill is titled the "Free Flow of Information Act." How ludicrous!
